Seeking Experienced MS-SQL DBA

We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join our group, working with our SimplePart and SQLBeat product lines. In this role you will be responsible for in house high-transaction (eCommerce OLTP), warehouse and application-driven database environments – as well as for troubleshooting and providing remote support to SQLBeat customer database environments in the field. This is a challenging position where you will learn new things every day, work with all SQL Server versions, and get to solve interesting problems in a wide range of environment types.

Ours is a fast moving environment with a short cycle and immediate feedback, in which we frequently prototype and experiment in order to keep up with changes in technology and standards – this position offers the opportunity to work with new technologies in a fun small-company environment, where you’ll never be bored.

Our SimplePart clients are automobile and motorcycle dealerships, and we operate their online parts businesses – providing the commerce platform as well as traffic generation services. We currently support 500,000 unique human monthly visitors, 1.9 million daily page requests and several million dollars in annual sales. Our SQLBeat clients are in government, as well as small and large businesses – SQLBeat monitors performance of their SQL Server environments, provides real-time alerting and maintains a comprehensive data warehouse of performance statistics. You’ll be a part of the team responsible for designing, building and supporting both these platforms.

You will:
  • Support the SimplePart web, data processing, order management and warehouse database environments including tasks ranging from basic administration through performance tuning, as well as development of tables, stored procedures and functions.
  • Explore, normalize and manipulate (ETL) very large data-sets – and build repeatable, automated processes for integration of this data into the SimplePart environment.
  • Assume ownership of internal SQL Server monitoring, as well as second-level SQLBeat client event response (this includes pager and on-call duties).
  • Take over development of the SQL-based components of SQLBeat.
  • Work directly with SQLBeat customers to provide best-practices recommendations, analysis of technical problems, and environment-specific customizations of the SQLBeat engine.
The role is best suited to:
  • A good multi-tasker who is comfortable prioritizing time between multiple projects and working independently.
  • An individual with a mind for developing secure, defensive, self governing code.
  • An individual comfortable with a busy, performance sensitive 24/7 environment.
  • An individual who works well in a flexible, low-structure small-company setting.
  • An individual who is comfortable meeting and interacting with their user base.
Other desirable skills and experience include:
  • Experience in online commerce or Internet
  • Familiarity with Powershell, SQL DMVs and advanced SQL Server performance tuning
  • Experience working with “other” databases – including DB2, Transbase, Oracle and legacy systems
  • Experience providing on-call SQL support
  • Experience as a SQL Server Developer
  • An interest in Cars, Motorcycles or other forms of transportation
Responsibilities for this FULL TIME W2 position will be with our SimplePart and SQLBeat product lines. Must live in Atlanta, GA area; no relocation will be provided. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. No recruiters please. This position has a 60 day contract-to-hire period.
